Crispy Fried Tofu Sticks

Ingredients: 
  • 1 pkg Nasoya Extra Firm Tofu, rinsed and patted dry
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tbls minced parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
  • Canola oil for frying
  • Nayonaise Dijon style spread or other dipping sauce
Preparation Method: 

Slice the block of tofu lengthwise into 5 equal rectangles. Then, slice each rectangle into 3 equal "sticks" (15 sticks total). Set aside.

Put cornmeal and parsley in a shallow baking dish, and lay the tofu sticks on top. Gently shake the baking dish until all 6 sides of each tofu stick are coated, using your fingers to gently coat them if necessary. (You may have to do this in more than one batch depending on the size of the dish.)

Pour a thin layer of oil into a large, non-stick skillet, and heat to medium-high. When a bead of water dropped into the oil sizzles, the oil is ready for frying.

Carefully lay the tofu sticks into the oil, and fry each side for several minutes until crispy all over. (You may have to cook the tofu sticks in more than 1 batch, depending on the size of your pan.) 

When they are done, remove them and place on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then serve immediately with Nayonaise® Dijon style spread.
