Soybeans and the Environment
Growing, harvesting, and processing soybeans has less impact on the environment than raising cattle or other animals for protein.
Our soybean producers use conservation practices that:
- Improve water quality
- Reduce soil erosion
- Enhance soil quality
- Increase wildlife habitat
- Reduce greenhouse gas production
Growing soybeans can be an essential part of keeping soil healthy, a key environmental benefit. As a useful member of the legume group, soybeans are an important crop rotation on many farms, providing nitrogen for future crops.
As a Manufacturer
Vitasoy USA’s (makers of Nasoya) environmental initiatives include the recycling of approximately 80 tons of corrugated cardboard per year. It also pre-treats more than 34.6 million gallons of waste water annually. In addition, more than 3.4 million pounds of the company’s unused soy, called “okara”, is reused as animal feed by local farmers every year.
